Mido

Mido was founded in 1918 in the town of Biel, Switzerland, by George G. Schaeren. Mido was responsible for many firsts, such as the first automatic watch, the first center chronograph, and the smallest lady's watch to name a few.

Mido introduced the first automatic watch in 1934, called the “Multifort.” Not only was the watch self-winding, but was also shock resistant, water resistant, and anti-magnetic, all firsts for wristwatch design. The center chronograph was introduced in 1945.

In 1970, Mido designed the Aquadura Crown sealing watch. The watch used a natural cork to seal the crown and therefore made it waterproof.

In the 1990s, Mido created their first Worldtime watch, which allowed the wearer to see the time anywhere in the world at the press of a button. Mido is currently owned by the Swatch Group.
